The 5 Websites You Need to Know About If You Want to Submit a DOD or Air Force SBIR

Time to read: 2 min

If you want to apply for a DoD or Air Force Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract you need to know about, and interact with, 5 sites. Each one contains information that you’ll need at different points in your application.

Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) site

This site provides the current SBIR opportunities and has educational resources about the program.

What you need to do here:

  1. You need to get your Small Business Identification number here, so log in and answer the questions about your company to validate that you qualify for the program.
  2. You will need to fill out your annual commercialization report

The main DOD SBIR application site

This is the DOD’s main SBIR website with the most up-to-date information on topics and Q&A.

What you need to do here:

  1. You can ask questions about open SBIR/STTR topics
  2. You need to create a profile here
  3. You will upload your proposal

AFWERX

This features all Air Force open topics for a particular cycle.

What you need to do here: Come here to find the technical problems that the Air Force is interested in within the Open Topic

DoD SBIR/STTR Homepage

We're not really sure why this page exists, it feels like it should be part of the main DOD SBIR application site but this is just a great repository of SBIR/STTR knowledge.

What you need to do here: This is the best single source we know of to find proposal instructions for all of the open agencies with open SBIRs

Department of the Air Force SBIR/STTR Proposal and Project Management web portal

What you need to do here: You’ll need to create a profile and come here to find out if you won.
